To get more familiar with 360 Fusion, I initially attempted to construct a playing die. Then I decided that something more relevant to college and challenging would be to construct a Hamms can (seen below). I chose a Hamm’s can as it seemed like a relatively simple 3D shape to begin with. It also is a Carleton and Minnesota icon. Having recently turned 21, a beer can is something that has been special in my life recently.



I found this particular geometry difficult to create. The curvature of the can particularly at the corners were fickle and I could not get them right. Also creating small protrusions that a can should have were tough to recreate. In particular, the top of the can with the tab and grooves were important for the design but I wasn’t sure the best method to create those. I had to settle with curvature that looked reasonable, but not perfect. I also struggled with appearance and how to complete that. This software seems like it is extremely useful in engineering to create low-cost 3D printed parts. Even in humanistic environments, it will be really useful in rendering artifacts that are too fragile to handle or that may be located across the globe.
I would say the best thing to start with is following a tutorial action for action so you can get an idea of the features the software can perform. Learning from this start to finish is worth the time as it will make your first attempt at the software much easier on your own. Also, continueing to practice on different objects and with new tutorials seems like the best route to expertise.
