- How easy/hard was it? This process was a bit difficult at the beginning because I didn’t know how to use this software at all. Additionally, I don’t have much experience with 3D modeling. Although I knew exactly how it should look in my head, finding the right tools to do what I wanted was definitely a learning curve. I do think some of the features were fairly intuitive though, and it was easy to find good tutorials on Youtube.
- What elements particularly bogged you down? I think the constant crashing was a bit annoying (especially when I forgot to save my work!) I feel like in the new age of Google, where things are often saved automatically to the cloud, it’s annoying to have to remember to save something. Additionally, there were just so many features. Figuring out which ones do which was definitely a challenge, and it took a lot of googling to find the right buttons to figure out how to make what I wanted.
- What compromises did you have to make? I think I definitely had to compromise some of the tiny stylistic details on the AirPods case, especially considering they would be extremely hard to replicate! For example, there were some tiny details on the AirPods case that would’ve been difficult to make, especially considering it already took so long to make the outline of the shape. Additionally, some of the colors weren’t exact– but I’m proud of the way it turned out! I think it looks pretty similar to the actual case.
- What humanistic uses can you envision for this tool in the areas of research or teaching? I think this tool would be really really useful to engineers and architects. Car manufacturers could use this tool to engineer parts, civic engineers could create bridges using this software, and architects could conceptualize the design of a skyscraper. In terms of teaching, I think this software could obviously be useful for a class like ours. Maybe even for some stem fields like biology or chemistry, where you could use 3D modeling to model molecules, parts of the body, and processes.
- Tip: Utilize the many fusion 360 tutorials on youtube. Additionally, google is your best friend!

The shape looks really accurate and I love how the ring is positioned to look attached to the case. Also, your ideas about using 3D modeling as an educative tool are really interesting as well. I think a lot of physical science classes would benefit from being able to see models rather than just 2D diagrams.
