Mapping the Standing Horse

I had no experience with mapping prior to this term, but after using it in two classes I’m very impressed by what can be done with relatively little effort. In Landscape Ecology I had to make a habitat suitability for fishers in Carleton’s arboretum, and in comparison to that process, making a map of an artifact’s journey around the world was relatively uncomplicated and intuitive. It’s been very interesting to see the different ways that ArcGIS is used across disciplines, and I’m excited to understand more of its applications and how to use it in the humanities world.

  1. I am also interested in the other disciplines that this technology could be applied. While Hacking the Humanities is the first class where I have had to use ArcGIS, I have used mapping technology for my Music as Heritage class. While mapping the simple journey of a single object seems a bit minimalistic, mapping something as complex as a tradition was extremely fascinating, and I can’t wait until we see the journeys of all the other objects.
