Progress
We have collected map data from various sources from around the ArcGIS mapping collection, as well as MnTOPO. We have put this together into a few layers in ArcGIS, so far consisting of a paved/unpaved layer, a parking layer, and a layer with some of the upper arb trails. We also reached out to current arb director Matthew Albert to verify that he is alright with our project.
Problems and Solutions
ArcGIS has been a little complicated to work with, so our progress hasn’t been as streamlined as we had hoped. The process of making layers and putting them all in one map is still something that we haven’t yet figured out completely. We have various layers with useful information but as of now, it’s hard to tell how we might put all of that information together into one final product. Also, as we have worked to develop our interactive usage map, we have realized more specifically than when we started what features we want to be implemented. In summary, the issues we have require more time and dedication in working with ArcGIS. We don’t need to change our initial plan, we just need to spend some more time in ArcGIS adding features.
Tools and Techniques
We are using ArcGIS to create the Arb map overlays of different trail types, regions, and topography. We plan on embedding an ArcGIS map in our final website with various layers that users can choose between.
Deliverables
- Before week 9 Tuesday: Finish and post Final Project Update doc. Create topographic, parking and paved trail layers. Assign division of labor for the following (9th) week.
- Before week 9 Thursday: All map layers finished and put together in one ArcGIS map, begin website work.
- Before week 10 Tuesday: Finish website and put together a presentation
Our project is slightly behind. As of now (Week 8 Sunday) we have not completed all of our layers for the map, which is making time feel slightly tighter after looking at how many days we have left in the term.
