Week 9: Tutorial Post

This is a tutorial for how to change a WordPress blog from displaying blog posts on the main page to showing them on a separate page. This technique isn’t to create any data visualization but it is a way to help organize any presentation of a Digital Humanities Project. While we didn’t set up our class blog, someone did to show blog posts on a separate page from the main one. This is useful to be able to display different parts of a Digital Humanities project on different pages and direct people’s attention to the main idea of a project versus any updates or changes to it. This also can be useful for any type of website which obviously will transfer to Digital Humanities. Having a unique, easy to navigate, and good looking website can add a lot to a Digital Humanities project, since presentation plays an important role in the purpose and use of these projects.

Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Create two pages for your Word press site. You can have more than this, but you only need two.

Step 2: Navigate to your dashboard and go to the settings tab.

Step 2: Navigate the the Reading tab of Settings

Step 4: Change the settings from “Your latest posts” to “A static page”

Step 5: Select which page you want for each type of page. Your home page will obviously be your static page. This is where you can put information about your project or other static information. The posts page can be where you post updates, blogs, or other things.

Step 6: Remember to save your changes

Step 7: Now you can customize your homepage and posts page. You can also start posting blogs to somewhere other than your homepage.
