I thought the web mapping process was actually very easy! I was surprised by how intuitive arcGIS was, and how easily it was able to interpret the data in the CSV without problems. I was sure it wouldn’t be able to get the actual locations just from the one or two word data points I put in, but I didn’t actually have to tweak it at all! I think web mapping has huge potential for making the humanities more accessible. For me, being able to see the battle of Gettysburg mapped out was hugely helpful and made me actually want to understand the battle, even though in previous history classes I always tuned it out. Overall, I think ArcGIS is great, and I’m very glad it’s free to use.
