I’m interested in the Arboretum History project because I’ve spent so much time enjoying the arb, but despite working in it for an entire summer I still don’t know much about its development. It’s one of Carleton’s most iconic features, but finding detailed information about its growth and management history can be difficult. This presents an opportunity to further develop the mapping and information-finding skills I learned over the course of this term, in addition to learning more about something that has defined my college experience. I’m also interested in the visuals that I hope to include in the project; there are many different maps displaying things from potential farm building locations to soil gradients from across the 100 year history of the arb, and I’m excited to work at combining these different styles into a cohesive visual language.
