Carleton’s Arboretum through the Years

Project Topic

Our goal is to create a website that combines georeferencing and timelines to document Carleton’s Arboretum throughout the years. We are using images of maps found on the Carleton Digital Collections website. As an extension of the project, there are also plans to add points on the map that users can click in order to view pictures of the Arb at the location of the point. We are not immediately sure where these pictures could be found.

Specific Technologies

For georeferencing, we are considering using the David Rumsey Georefrencer or MapWarper. For the timeline, we’ll likely be using TimelineJS. For the extension of attaching points to the map, we’ll likely use ArcGIS online.

Presentation: In order to combine all the aspects of our project, we plan on creating our own website. In order to make this project available to the rest of the Carleton community, we’ll likely need to find a way to host the website under a Carleton domain.

This DH project gives us some ideas as to what our project could look like.
