Format: Carleton has an archive of all the artists/students bands that have performed at the Cave since 2003. It’s primarily a bullet point list sectioned off by trimesters of that year. Each bullet point is of the format “day, month, date – artist name.” Using this information, we’ve created a CSV file to store this data under two columns (date and artist), and have been manually entering all the values.

Rights: This archive belongs to Carleton, but is made available to the public since viewers are not required to have a Carleton account to be able to view this page.

Privacy: There are no Privacy or Ethical Concerns.

Source: https://www.last.fm/

Format: Currently this source is many, many web pages with listener counts for many artists. We need to put the listener counts into a CSV that has them corresponding with the artist. Currently we are just searching and copying the listener count into the spreadsheet. It is quite tedious, but gets the job done.

Rights: Last FM takes this data from public sources that count each time an artist has been listened to (such as through Spotify and Apple Music). The data is technically owned by LastFM but is open to the public, in that there are no paywalls or logins necessary to access it. This data is accessible elsewhere, so it seems like anything on this site we are allowed to use.

Ethics: The data depicts specific bands, but just by listener count. All the information is public in that you can find it without even an account. It seems that bands agree to have this data shared with them and the public. So in theory the data isn’t protected by any walls.

Format: Instagram’s format is pretty simple: image accompanied by a caption. We will only be using certain images of bands from the site to add to our timeline or network. These will most likely be in JPG format.

Rights: This public page belongs to The Cave/SAPB so permission to use the images should be easy to acquire.

Ethics: The data depicts specific bands and occasionally audience members. All the information is public because it is an unrestricted account. There will be no data shared besides the image itself and the date, and the name of the band pictured.
